Listeners enjoyed a lively conversation with our guest Dr. Ruth Roberts.  She is a graduate of the North Carolina Statue University – College of Veterinary Medicine.  She has also studied Traditional Chinese Veterinary medicine and became certified in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Food Therapy at the Chi Institute in Florida.  In 2006, Dr. Ruth created The Original CrockPet Diet™.  Since then, she has been teaching her clients how to home-cook for their pets.  In 2016, she left the traditional clinical veterinary practice and began working solely by remote consultation with pet parents.

It was a pleasure to talk with Dr. Chumkee Aziz on All My Children Wear Fur Coats.  She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.  She then completed an internship with the ASPCA in New York City and a shelter medicine residency at the University of California, Davis.  She is currently employed by the ASPCA as a senior director in the shelter medicine services department.  Dr. Aziz is board certified in Shelter Medicine Practice (only one of 35 in the country) through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.  She joined the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) in 2017 and is serving her second term as their Board President.    Read more

All My Children Wear Fur Coats had the pleasure of meeting Alon Rosenberg, the founder of Coastline Global, a company with a unique approach to an age old problem – how to collect urine samples from cats and dogs for diagnostic purposes.  I recently had my dog, Darla, at the vet and they needed a urine sample.  Recently, I was chasing her around the yard with a cup in my hand trying to get close enough to her while she is “doing her business” to collect the necessary sample.  This can be an exercise in frustration.     Read more

Daniel is a lawyer turned entrepreneur, activist and science-minded individual who backs his claims with substantial research.  His book has been called “The most rigorous and probing canine nutrition book ever written.”  His book has two primary theses – 1. Dietary carbohydrates are the fundamental cause of obesity in dogs, and 2.  Big pet food companies (he calls them, “Big Kibble”) are shaping our thinking because 90% of kibble products have carbohydrates as a primary ingredient.  Yet, dog food companies are not required to report the levels of dietary starch or sugars in their foods.    Read more
