Beth Soltysiak – Animal Friends of the Valleys

This week on All My Children Wear Fur Coats, we had the pleasure of speaking with Beth Soltysiak, Director of Development of Animal Friends of the Valleys (AVF).

Beth’s primary focus is to bring in funding for the nonprofit. Her sales, marketing, and fundraising background has allowed her to build a strong portfolio for the shelter.

Animal Friends of the Valleys is made up of people who are both animal experts and animal lovers! They want to be a resource for their community, helping their area become one of the best places in the country for pets and pet guardians alike.

As the nation’s largest sanctuary, Animal Friends of the Valleys aims to promote animal care through education and a humane, proactive animal services program. They provide adoption, animal control, spay/neuter, licensing services, and more. They look forward to the time when there will be no more homeless pets.

Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary – Katherine Hilton

I thoroughly enjoyed talking to today’s guest, Katherine Hilton, Program Manager for Donor Relations and Stewardship at Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary.  This amazing organization was founded in 2005 by Alana Miller and her daughter after they adopted a blind kitten from a local shelter that had been surrendered and was going to be euthanized.  Today, they are still going strong.  They are located in St. Pauls, North Carolina.   

Blind Cat Rescue caters to numerous resident cats who live out their lives in the comfort and safety of their forever home.  Blind Cat Rescue is a true sanctuary, the residents are not available for adoption.  They have already suffered too many uncertainties and some of them, irreparable trauma.  However, all of the residents can be sponsored with your monthly donation.  You can pick one or more of your favorites online at “Meet the Cats.”   Read more

Your Humane Society SPCA Claudia Labbe

Today, we welcomed to the show, Claudia Labbe, the Fundraising/Public Relations Chairperson for Your Humane Society SPCA (also known as the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Florida).  Claudia has loved animals all her life but until age 21 was allergic.  When she was free from her allergies her pet family grew.  Today she has a horse, a donkey, a mini mule, a dog and two cats.  She is a vocal advocate for estate planning for your pets reminding pet parents, “It is just one more way to be a responsible pet owner.”

Pet Rescue Rx – Dr. Glenn Buckley, D.V.M.

Today’s guest was Dr. Glenn Buckley, D.V.M., CEO and founder of Pet Rescue Rx.  Dr. Buckley attended veterinary school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine.  As a practicing veterinarian, he worked as an emergency vet in South Florida.  After closing that practice and returning to his hometown of Akron, New York (not too far from Buffalo), he and his brother Scott started Pet Rescue Rx.  Dr. Buckley knew he had found a way to continue to help both loved pets and pets in rescue.    Read more

Town & Country K9 ResQ – Jen Mihocko-Tierney, Founder and Executive Director

Today’s show focused on Town & County K9 ResQ located in Mohegan Lake, New York.  Town & County is a 501c3 charity devoted to finding loving homes for adoptable pets and keeping current pets with their owners and out of the shelter system when times are tough.

The Paw and Feather Plan – Jessica Pita

What is the Paw and Feather Plan?  The Paw and Feather Plan was created in 2018 by Jessica Pita to provide care for pets when a pet parent is no longer able, due to death, illness or extreme life events.  They specialize in placing pets in permanent, loving homes.   

Jessica has been a shelter volunteer and an employee.  She has seen the sadness, the agony and heartbreak that loved pets experience when they have lost their pet parent.  Pets are given up to shelters for many reasons – but one reason a pet should NEVER be in a shelter is because the pet parent didn’t have a plan.    Read more
