This week on All My Children Wear Fur Coats, Daniel Kiss highlighted the importance of flea and tick prevention and explained how Tickless offers a chemical-free solution to protect pets from harmful pests.

Daniel Kiss is the founder and CEO of ProtectOne, the company behind Tickless — an innovative ultrasonic device designed to repel ticks and fleas. His inspiration for starting Tickless stemmed from a personal experience in his childhood, when his beloved pup tragically succumbed to a tick-borne illness. Around 2010, Daniel met an eccentric professor who introduced him to the idea of using a specific ultrasound frequency to deter ticks. Intrigued by the concept, Daniel set about creating the first Tickless prototypes. Overwhelmingly positive feedback ensued, prompting Daniel to move forward with the brand. Today, Tickless is available in over 50 countries.

Daniel expounded upon the technology that powers Tickless. Ticks locate hosts by using Haller’s organ, a sensory structure that helps them detect heat, humidity, and vibrations. Tickless interferes with this organ’s functionality, rendering ticks unable to find your pets. Unlike chemical treatments, which only target pests after they’ve already attached to an animal, ultrasonic repellent works proactively to prevent ticks and fleas from approaching in the first place. Daniel clarified that Tickless will not solve an existing flea or tick infestation; a dog must be free of pests prior to application. Tickless isn’t just for animals; it is also effective for protecting humans.

Daniel revealed some of the disadvantages associated with chemical tick and flea solutions. These substances can be harmful to pets and are often ineffective at quickly eliminating parasites, creating a window of opportunity for the spread of diseases. When dealing with fleas, eliminating the pests on your pet is just one half of the battle. It’s crucial to ensure that your entire environment is rid of them. While this is difficult to achieve with traditional methods, Tickless prevents the parasites from feeding entirely. Thanks to fleas’ short lifespans, this approach creates the ideal conditions for total eradication.

ProtectOne is dedicated to sustainability, integrating eco-friendly practices throughout their business operations. Daniel mentioned some of the changes that reflect this commitment: switching to biodegradable packaging and offering rechargeable devices alongside the battery powered ones. Daniel also recognized the impact of climate change on tick activity, linking the absence of cold winters to an increase in tick populations.

In addition to Tickless, ProtectOne offers Miteless, a similar device that is fine-tuned to defend against dust mites. Dust mites are the primary cause of dust allergies, a common problem for both pets and humans alike. Daniel shared that new products are currently in development, including a waterproof version of Tickless.
